Thai Woman Rescued After Two-Hour Struggle with Python

Bangkok, Thailand, Sept 19 (Alliance News): A 64-year-old Thai woman was rescued by police after being strangled by a python for over two hours. The woman, identified as Arom, was attacked while doing dishes at her home on the outskirts of Bangkok.

According to Arom, she initially felt several bites on her leg from the snake. “The snake just shot forward and bit me,” she said in a police video obtained by CNN.

The python then coiled itself around her, tightening its grip until she fell to the ground. Arom struggled to free herself from the snake’s constricting coils without success.

She cried out for help, but no one responded initially. Eventually, a neighbor heard her distress calls and alerted the police.

“We were shocked to see the lady was tied down on the floor with the python wrapping around her,” said Police Major Sergeant Anusorn Wongmalee of the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station. “The snake was really big.”

Police footage shows Arom on the floor of a dark room, trapped by the python coiled around her waist. Rescuers worked for about 30 minutes to free her, after which she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The snake managed to escape and was not recaptured, police said. Thailand is home to 250 snake species, including reticulated, Burmese, and Blood pythons.

While pythons are non-venomous, they kill by suffocation through constriction.

In Thailand, approximately 12,000 people were treated for snake and animal bites last year, with 26 fatalities recorded.

Arom’s attack follows another recent python incident in the country, where a man survived a snake bite to his testicle by hitting the snake with a cleaning brush before seeking help.
