Wealthy Nations Urged to Commit $1 Trillion for Climate Action at COP29

BAKU, Nov 14 (Alliance News): Climate finance remains the core focus of COP29 in Azerbaijan as negotiators urge wealthy nations to pledge at least $1 trillion annually by 2030 to support poorer countries in climate adaptation and green energy transition.

Experts warn that delaying investments now will significantly escalate future costs.

The talks have highlighted disagreements, including potential U.S. funding withdrawal under incoming President Trump and calls for private-sector engagement, tax on polluting sectors, and increased contributions from multilateral banks.

The event, marked by diplomatic tensions and protests demanding action, underscores the urgency of reaching a consensus as richer countries face mounting pressure to fulfill their commitments.
