Four Injured in Clashes Over Firecrackers Outside Mosque in India

NEW DELHI, March 10(Alliance News): At least four people were injured in Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Madhya Pradesh, as clashes broke out during celebrations of India’s Champions Trophy win.

The violence erupted when firecrackers were lit outside a mosque, triggering tensions between groups.

The town, located 200 km from Bhopal, witnessed stone-pelting from both sides, while cars, shops, and bikes were vandalized and set ablaze, officials said. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds, and security patrols were increased in sensitive areas.

Senior police official Hitika Vasal confirmed that the disagreement began after firecrackers were set off near the mosque during celebratory processions. Another police officer, Nimish Agarwal, stated that the situation is now under control.

Similar incidents occurred last month in Maharashtra, where police had to intervene during celebrations of India’s victory over Pakistan in the same tournament.

Critics have accused the Narendra Modi-led government of failing to protect minorities, but the ruling party denies allegations of discrimination against Muslims.
