Pope Francis Thanks Well-Wishers in First Audio Message from Hospital

VATICAN CITY, Mar 7 (Alliance News): Pope Francis has sent his first audio message since being hospitalized for double pneumonia nearly three weeks ago, expressing gratitude to those who have prayed for his health.

In a brief message played during a nightly prayer service in St. Peter’s Square, the 88-year-old pontiff thanked supporters “from the bottom of my heart” and gave them his blessings. The Vatican confirmed that his condition remained stable without further respiratory crises.

Doctors treating Pope Francis at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital announced they would no longer issue daily medical updates, citing his stable condition. However, they maintained a “guarded” prognosis, indicating that he is not yet out of danger. The pope, who was admitted on February 14, has been receiving oxygen therapy and continues to work between treatments.

Despite his illness, the pope has remained engaged in Vatican affairs, approving new bishop appointments from his hospital bed. His hospitalization marks his longest public absence since his papacy began 12 years ago.
