Hong Kong, Sept 18 (Alliance News): Thailand’s LGBTQ+ community celebrated as the Senate passed a marriage equality bill, bringing the country closer to becoming the first in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage.
While the bill still requires approval from the king, it is widely expected to pass, making Thailand the third country in Asia to recognize same-sex marriages, after Taiwan and Nepal.
For many, the law marks a turning point in LGBTQ+ rights in the region, offering hope for equality and freedom to marry.
However, progress remains slow in other parts of Asia, with few governments actively pursuing similar legislation.
