Canada Expels Six Indian Diplomats Over Alleged Involvement in Sikh Separatist Violence, India Responds

OTTAWA, Oct 16 (Alliance News): Canada has expelled six Indian diplomats, including the High Commissioner, following accusations by Canadian police linking Indian government agents to homicides, harassment, and violent acts against Sikh separatists in the country.

Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated that the decision was made after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) gathered concrete evidence, identifying the diplomats as persons of interest in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The move has sharply escalated diplomatic tensions, with India immediately retaliating by expelling six Canadian diplomats, including Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler.

Relations between the countries have deteriorated since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in Nijjar’s assassination on Canadian soil last year.

During a press conference, Trudeau condemned India’s alleged actions, calling it a fundamental breach of sovereignty and unacceptable for any democracy.

The RCMP also disclosed details of multiple investigations linking Indian diplomats to serious criminal activities, citing over a dozen credible threats against pro-Khalistan activists.

India dismissed the allegations as “preposterous” and accused Canada of smearing its image for political gains.
