United Kingdom, Sept 18 (Alliance News): London’s iconic Oxford Street may soon be transformed into a traffic-free, pedestrianized avenue, following new plans announced by Mayor Sadiq Khan.
The proposal aims to revitalize the world-famous shopping destination, which has faced challenges in recent years, including declining tourism and the closure of several flagship stores.
Khan’s vision includes creating a greener, cleaner, and safer public space to restore Oxford Street’s reputation as a top retail destination.
However, the plan requires additional government-granted powers, which would limit some of Westminster City Council’s control.
A consultation period will precede the implementation of the project, with hopes of transitioning within two years.
