Trump Pledges to Shut Down Department of Education if Re-Elected, Sparking Debate

Washington, Sep 20 (Alliance News): Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to eliminate the Department of Education if he wins the 2024 election, describing it as an example of federal overreach into American families’ lives.

During a rally in Wisconsin earlier this month, Trump stated, “We will ultimately eliminate the federal Department of Education” and accused the agency of “indoctrinating America’s youth.”

Trump’s proposal has drawn criticism from Vice President Kamala Harris, who vowed to protect the department’s role in funding public schools.

“We are not going to let him eliminate the Department of Education,” Harris said in her speech at the Democratic National Convention in August.

The Department of Education was established as a Cabinet-level agency in 1979 under President Jimmy Carter.

Trump has not provided details on how he would proceed with shutting down the department, which would require an act of Congress.
