BALIKESIR, Dec 24 (Alliance News): At least 12 people were killed and four others injured in a deadly explosion at an explosives manufacturing plant in the Karesi district of Balikesir, Türkiye, on Tuesday.
Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu confirmed the casualties, stating the explosion occurred in the part of the factory where capsules are produced.
The force of the blast caused the building to collapse. Emergency teams, including 112 medical and fire services, were quickly deployed to the scene.
An investigation has been initiated by Turkish authorities, with Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc emphasizing a thorough inquiry into the incident. The Balikesir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has assigned multiple prosecutors to oversee the investigation.
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz expressed his condolences, offering prayers for the victims and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.
He also extended his sympathies to the families affected by the tragic event.
The local governor assured that there were no suspicions of sabotage in connection with the explosion.
