BERLIN, Dec 10 (Alliance News): Germany, Britain, and France voiced serious concern on Monday over Iran’s rapid progress in uranium enrichment and called for Tehran to stop and reverse these developments.
Rafael Grossi, head of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), revealed on Friday that Iran has been speeding up its uranium enrichment to 60% purity, nearing the 90% threshold considered weapons-grade.
Although Iran has consistently denied ambitions to develop nuclear weapons, the enrichment process has dual-use potential—both for peaceful nuclear energy and weapons.
The trio of European countries, known as the E3, condemned Iran’s recent actions, particularly the increased rate of uranium production at the Fordow facility and the rise in the number of operational centrifuges.
They also noted Iran’s preparation to install more enrichment infrastructure, which amplifies its overall enrichment capacity.
The E3 stated that these measures further undermine the 2015 nuclear agreement and will lead to an expanded stockpile of highly enriched uranium with “no credible civilian justification.”
The European powers urged Iran to halt its nuclear escalation immediately and revert to previous policies.
