Moscow, Nov 20 (Alliance News): Russia has issued a stark warning following Ukraine’s use of a long-range American missile to strike Russian targets for the first time, with President Vladimir Putin cautioning the United States about the potential for a nuclear escalation.
This comes after the Biden administration allegedly approved the use of the weapon.
Russia’s revised nuclear policy doctrine now signals that the country would consider using nuclear weapons if attacked with conventional weapons, especially if the attack poses a serious threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The new doctrine expands on previous policies, which only allowed for nuclear strikes in response to nuclear aggression or existential threats.
The doctrine also includes provisions for responding to conventional attacks supported by nuclear powers, framing such actions as joint aggression.
Additionally, large-scale strikes, including those using aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones, are now considered grounds for a nuclear response.
Furthermore, any aggression by a military alliance against Russia or its allies will be viewed as an attack on the entire alliance.
With Russia and the United States holding 88% of the world’s nuclear weapons, the revised doctrine raises global concerns over the potential for escalation.
