WASHINGTON, Jan 18 (Alliance News): United States immigration authorities are set to conduct widespread arrests of undocumented immigrants across the country starting Tuesday, according to Tom Homan, the incoming “border czar” under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Homan, a former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), told Fox News on Friday that the operation aims to target criminal aliens but will include anyone in the country without legal status.
“ICE is going to enforce immigration laws without apology,” said Homan. “No one is off the table. If they’re in the country illegally, they got a problem.”
The Wall Street Journal reported that a large-scale immigration raid is planned in Chicago, involving 100 to 200 ICE officers, and will span the entire week.
Chicago police confirmed they would not interfere with federal operations, stating the department does not document immigration status or share information with ICE.
Chicago, among several Democratic-led “sanctuary cities,” has committed not to arrest individuals solely based on their immigration status, which could create friction with federal enforcement under the new administration.
The move marks one of President Trump’s initial steps to fulfill his campaign promise of deporting millions of undocumented immigrants, signaling a more aggressive immigration policy.
