WASHINGTON, Dec 20 (Alliance News): US Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer has raised concerns over Pakistan’s missile development, warning that even the US is not immune to the threat posed by the country’s long-range ballistic missiles.
Finer highlighted that these missiles, capable of hitting targets in South Asia and beyond, could be equipped with nuclear warheads, raising alarms about their potential reach.
The statement came after the US State Department imposed sanctions on four Pakistani institutions for their involvement in Pakistan’s ballistic missile program.
These sanctions, which fall under Executive Order 13382, target entities facilitating the production and delivery of weapons of mass destruction. Finer’s comments reflect growing concern over Pakistan’s expanding missile capabilities.
In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a strong rebuttal, calling the sanctions unfair and discriminatory.
A spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic missile capabilities are essential for national defense and regional stability, aimed solely at protecting its sovereignty.
The spokesperson further criticized the sanctions as undermining regional security and pointing to the double standards in global non-proliferation efforts.
