Whooping Cough Cases Surge in the U.S., Reaching Highest Levels Since 2014

USA, Sept 23 (Alliance News): Cases of whooping cough in the United States have surged to five times the number reported last year, marking the highest levels since 2014, according to new data from the CDC. So far in 2023, over 14,500 cases have been recorded, compared to just under 3,000 by this time last year.

The spike, which brings infections back to pre-pandemic levels, highlights the limitations of current vaccines, as their protection diminishes after two to three years.

This year’s cases have prompted discussions among health experts about the potential for more effective vaccine strategies.
