BEIJING, Nov 18 (Alliance News): Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met on the sidelines of the informal APEC leaders’ summit in Lima, Peru, marking their first face-to-face meeting in over a year.
The two leaders reviewed China-US relations over the past four years and held in-depth, constructive discussions on enhancing cooperation during the transition period of the US administration.
The talks covered various international and regional issues and aimed to clarify the future direction of the bilateral relationship.
Both leaders reaffirmed the seven-point consensus guiding China-US relations, which includes mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, maintaining dialogue, and non-conflict prevention.
Additionally, Xi and Biden discussed artificial intelligence, agreeing on joint resolutions to address the issue at the UN General Assembly.
President Xi also reiterated China’s position on sensitive topics like Taiwan and the South China Sea.
Amid growing US pressure on China’s economy, trade, and technology, President Xi emphasized China’s stance on these matters, with both sides agreeing on the need for responsible management of competitive aspects in their relationship.
