52 Dead, 65 Injured in Double Bus Accidents on Kabul-Kandahar Highway

KABUL, Dec 19 (Alliance News): Two fatal bus accidents in central Afghanistan claimed 52 lives and left 65 others injured on Wednesday night, according to Taliban government spokesmen.

The accidents occurred on the highway between Kabul and Kandahar, in Ghazni province, involving a fuel tanker and a truck.

Hamidullah Nisar, provincial head of information and culture, confirmed the incidents took place near Shahbaz village and the eastern district of Andar.

The first bus collided with a fuel tanker, while the second hit a truck. Some of the injured were reported to be in serious condition, and rescue teams quickly arrived on the scene to assist the victims.

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid expressed deep regret over the incidents, describing the crashes as a tragic loss for the country.

Afghanistan has faced a rising toll of traffic accidents, which are attributed to poorly maintained roads, unsafe driving practices, and a lack of sufficient traffic regulation.

In a similar incident earlier this year, a bus collided with a fuel tanker in Helmand province, killing over 20 people.

Last year, another devastating crash occurred in Afghanistan’s Salang Pass when a fuel tanker overturned and exploded, killing 31.
