Chilean President Faces Sexual Harassment Allegations, Investigation Underway

SANTIAGO, Nov 28 (Alliance News): Chilean President Gabriel Boric is under investigation following allegations of sexual harassment and leaking private photos, according to Attorney General Cristian Cruzado.

The claims were filed in September at the Magallanes prosecutor’s office in southern Chile. Attorney General Cruzado confirmed the criminal case is based on documented evidence and that a special investigative team has been assigned.

The allegations stem from interactions between President Boric and the accuser, which reportedly occurred from July 2013 to July 2014.

The woman alleges that Boric sent her sexually harassing emails and leaked private photos during this period.

While the Attorney General revealed that email records are being scrutinized, he emphasized that there was no emotional or friendly relationship between the president and the accuser.

The identity of the woman remains undisclosed.

President Boric, who assumed office in March 2022, has strongly denied the accusations.

As president, Boric has immunity, meaning impeachment proceedings would be required for a formal criminal investigation to proceed.
