China and India Hold In-Depth Talks on Border Issues and Bilateral Relations

Beijing, Dec 19 (Alliance News): The 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives on the China-India Border Issue took place on Thursday, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval engaging in constructive talks.

The discussions focused on addressing the China-India border issues and strengthening bilateral relations.

During the talks, Wang Yi highlighted the positive progress made during the October meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan.

The two leaders had emphasized the importance of viewing China-India relations from a long-term, strategic perspective and reached significant consensus on improving ties.

As China and India prepare to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, both sides reflected on their shared history, underscoring the value of the five principles of peaceful coexistence.

The discussions centered around the role of dialogue and consultation in managing differences and promoting stability.

The special representative meeting, the first formal one in five years, was seen as an essential step to implement the leaders’ consensus. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and resolving border issues.

The two representatives called for enhanced communication, mutual trust, and cooperation to maintain peace in the border areas and promote a stable development trajectory for China-India relations.

Ajit Doval expressed India’s readiness to continue fostering dialogue and cooperation with China, especially regarding the long-standing border issue.

Both sides reiterated their determination to uphold multilateralism and promote a just and equitable global order.
