China and Russia Strengthen Military Ties Amid Rising Tensions with the West

BEIJING, Oct 16 (Alliance News): Chinese and Russian defense officials have vowed to deepen their strategic partnership during high-level meetings in Beijing this week, signaling stronger military cooperation between the two nations.

Andrey Belousov, Russia’s defense chief, highlighted shared views and a unified approach during talks with Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission.

The meetings come amid heightened military drills between Russia and China, a move seen as a message to the US and its allies that the two powers stand united.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to defending their national sovereignty and security interests, according to China’s Defense Ministry.

Belousov’s visit, his first to China since his appointment in May, precedes an expected trip by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Russia for a BRICS summit, further underscoring the strengthening ties between the two nations in the face of Western opposition.

The US has closely monitored this growing partnership, accusing Beijing of enabling Russia’s war in Ukraine through the supply of dual-use goods, including microelectronics and machine tools.
