NEW YORK, Jan 15 (Alliance News): John Kirby, national security spokesman for US President Joe Biden, clarified that Pakistan has never been officially designated as an ally of the United States.
Speaking at a Washington press conference on Biden administration foreign policy, Kirby highlighted the absence of any formal alliance agreement between the two nations while acknowledging their cooperative relationship in counterterrorism efforts.
“Pakistan and the United States have been partners in the war on terrorism. We recognize that the Pakistani people continue to face threats from terrorism, particularly originating from Afghan soil into Pakistan,” said Kirby.
He underscored the Biden administration’s continued commitment to working with Pakistan on addressing shared security challenges, asserting, “This policy has not changed and will not change.”
Addressing questions about Biden’s approach to the Middle East, Kirby pointed to ongoing efforts to broker peace between Israel and Hamas, describing the administration’s focus on achieving an agreement as a significant objective.
