Russia to Revise Nuclear Doctrine Amid Western Intervention in Ukraine War

Moscow, Sep 5 (Alliance News): Russia has announced plans to revise its nuclear doctrine due to the West’s intervention in the ongoing war with Ukraine. Russian officials stated that U.S. involvement in the conflict has made it necessary for Moscow to reconsider its nuclear policies.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the collective actions of Western nations in Ukraine have led Russia to take this step. Although the specific changes have not been detailed, Moscow hinted at the need to adapt its policy concerning the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons.

President Vladimir Putin’s current nuclear doctrine, established four years ago, allows the use of nuclear weapons if Russia faces a nuclear attack or if a conventional attack threatens the nation’s existence. The updated doctrine would reflect the growing challenges posed by the West, particularly in light of U.S.-supplied weapons that Ukraine may use to strike deep into Russian territory.

It is reported that Ukraine is in discussions with its allies regarding the use of Western weapons to target critical infrastructure within Russia. In response, Russia has intensified airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy and other key infrastructure.
