Russia, Ukraine Engage in Overnight Drone Warfare Across Multiple Regions

MOSCOW, Jan 24 (Alliance News): Russian air defenses intercepted 121 Ukrainian drones overnight, thwarting a large-scale assault on 13 regions, including Moscow, according to the Russian Defence Ministry on Friday.

The attack reportedly caused no casualties or significant damage.

The ministry stated that six drones were destroyed over Moscow’s outskirts, with one intercepted within the capital.

Other regions, such as Kursk and Ryazan, also faced targeted attacks, including reports of damage to infrastructure. Unverified videos circulating on Telegram showed significant blazes in Ryazan, purportedly from hits to an oil storage depot and a power station.

In response, Ukrainian forces claimed they countered a Russian drone assault overnight, shooting down 25 of 58 drones. Ukraine’s interior ministry reported debris killing three people in the Kyiv region and injuring another.

Ukraine’s Andriy Kovalenko alleged on Telegram that hits in Ryazan and Bryansk damaged critical Russian infrastructure, including a microelectronics plant linked to weapons systems. Russia’s RIA news agency confirmed temporary halts at affected facilities but reported no casualties.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that air defenses had successfully repelled drone attacks targeting four locations around the capital. Debris from intercepted drones caused no reported damage.

Russian officials said Ukrainian drones also targeted the Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod, and Crimean Peninsula regions, as well as Saratov, Rostov, Voronezh, Tula, Oryol, and Lipetsk. Emergency teams are addressing localized damages, including power outages in some areas.

Meanwhile, Moscow airports briefly suspended operations, redirecting six flights, according to aviation authorities.
