Russia Unveils Advanced Buk-M3 Viking Missile System

MOSCOW (Alliance News): Russian defense manufacturer Rosoboronexport has announced the development of the Buk-M3 Viking, a state-of-the-art missile defense system that claims to rival and defeat advanced U.S. aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

Developed by Almaz-Antey, the same company behind Russia’s S-400 air defense system, the Buk-M3 Viking is an upgraded version of the Buk series.

It integrates modern radar, guidance, and control systems, enhancing its ability to counter a range of threats, including stealth aircraft, drones, and missiles.

Equipped with the 9A317M launcher, the Viking system can carry six missiles and simultaneously engage six targets at ranges of 2.5 to 70 kilometers.

The missiles are guided by advanced systems capable of precise targeting, making it a formidable component of Russia’s air defense arsenal.

The Buk-M3 system features advanced radar capable of tracking over 100 airborne targets simultaneously, including stealth aircraft, which are traditionally difficult to detect.

This makes it particularly effective against modern fighter jets like the U.S. F-22 and F-35.

Operational since 2016, the Buk-M3 Viking is designed to work in tandem with other defense systems such as the S-300VM, creating a layered defense strategy.

Its powerful capabilities have reportedly raised concerns among Western military circles due to its potential deployment near strategic locations.
