DAMASCUS, Dec 20 (IPS): A high-level delegation of three senior American officials arrived in Syria today and is set to meet with the leaders of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a key group that played a major role in overthrowing the Bashar al-Assad government.
This diplomatic visit focuses on discussions surrounding Syria’s future, including the ongoing transfer of power in the country.
A spokesperson from the US State Department revealed that the delegation’s meetings would also address other crucial matters, such as engaging with members of Syrian civil society and other local communities.
Furthermore, the officials aim to gather information regarding missing Americans in Syria.
