South Korean Parliament Passes Historic Impeachment Motion Against Acting President

SEOUL, Dec 27 (Alliance News): South Korea’s parliament has overwhelmingly approved an impeachment motion against Acting President Han Deok-soo, marking a historic development in the country’s political landscape.

According to foreign media, opposition parties initiated the motion after Han, who also serves as the Prime Minister, refused to appoint constitutional judges to take action against former President Yoon Suk-yeol, a member of his party.

This has intensified political tensions, with the opposition accusing Han of undermining constitutional justice.

The impeachment follows allegations against Yoon Suk-yeol regarding martial law decisions and bribery involving the former first lady. The opposition has called for two independent investigative agencies to probe the cases.

This is the first time South Korea’s parliament has impeached an acting president.

The political turmoil has deepened after two impeachment motions were previously filed against Yoon over his controversial imposition of martial law.

Although the first motion failed, the successful passage of the second no-confidence motion resulted in Yoon’s resignation.

Han Deok-soo’s impeachment is expected to escalate the country’s political instability, with observers closely monitoring the developments and potential investigations.
