Syrian Rebels Announce Amnesty and Shift Power Amid Growing Control

DAMASCUS, Dec 10 (Alliance News): The Syrian rebel group Tahrir al-Sham has increased its control over the country and announced a general amnesty for members of the government army.

This move comes as the Central Bank reassured citizens that their bank deposits remain safe.

Reports indicate that Tahrir al-Sham’s leader, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, met with the former prime minister to discuss power transfer plans.

Al-Julani stated that the experience of the previous government will be utilized during the transition process.

The leadership of the interim government has been formally passed to Muhammad al-Bashir by Commander Abu Muhammad al-Julani. This shift in command marks a significant step in restructuring governance in Syria.

The new developments have led to international calls for a peaceful and restrained power transition. Western nations urged all sides to act cautiously and prioritize dialogue.

A spokesperson from the Military Operations Department confirmed that all government soldiers are safe under the rebels’ control, with assurances that no harm will come to them.

In the evolving narrative, Russia has shifted its terminology, now referring to the rebels as “opposition” rather than “terrorists,” a term previously used by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This change reflects a shift in Russia’s approach to the ongoing situation in Syria.
