LONDON, Jan 18 (Alliance News): British-Pakistani Judge Ahmed Nadim has sentenced three men from Keighley to prison for their involvement in a West Yorkshire grooming gang that operated in the late 1990s, a BBC report revealed.
The court sentenced Ibrar Hussain, 47, to six-and-a-half years for two counts of rape, Imtiaz Ahmed, 62, to nine years for one count of rape (in his absence), and Fayaz Ahmed, 45, to seven-and-a-half years for two counts of rape (also in his absence). The trio’s convictions stem from a November and December 2024 trial.
This brings the total number of convictions in the case to eight, with five other members sentenced in 2023 for sexual offences involving a 13-year-old victim.
Judge Nadim acknowledged the victims’ resilience, saying, “They have had to tread a painful and arduous path. I commend them both for their courage and steadfastness.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed sentences for the five convicted in the first trial:
- Amreaz Asghar, 47: 4.5 years for rape.
- Perwaz Asghar, 50: 6.5 years for indecent assault.
- Mohammed Din, 47: 14 years for 11 counts of rape.
- Sajid Mahmood Khan, 45: 3 years for rape.
- Zehroon Razak, 47: 6.5 years for rape.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) addressed public concerns following recent claims by X platform owner Elon Musk, highlighting that 85% of group-based child abusers in 2024 were white, a figure consistent with 83% from the previous year.
The verdict marks a significant step toward justice for the survivors and underscores the importance of confronting sexual abuse.
