Trudeau Accuses India of Violating Canadian Sovereignty Amid Diplomatic Row

OTTAWA, Oct 17 (Alliance News): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated Wednesday that there are “clear indications” India violated Canada’s sovereignty, intensifying tensions between the two countries over the 2023 murder of a Sikh activist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, on Canadian soil.

Trudeau’s remarks came during a hearing on foreign interference, where he addressed Nijjar’s killing and a broader Indian campaign targeting Canadian citizens.

Trudeau asserted that India’s actions amounted to a violation of Canadian sovereignty and that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had determined that violence against Canadians had been enabled and, in many cases, directed by the Indian government.

This follows Ottawa’s accusations that New Delhi was involved in the killing of Nijjar, an advocate for a separate Sikh state, Khalistan.

India has denied the charges, calling them “preposterous” and politically motivated.

Both countries have since expelled each other’s diplomats, further escalating the diplomatic row.
