TEHRAN, Jan 18 (Alliance News): Two Iranian Supreme Court judges, Ayatollahs Mohammad Moghiseh and Ali Razini, were shot dead outside the court in Tehran on Saturday, with a bodyguard and another judge wounded in the attack.
The assailant reportedly killed himself after opening fire, according to the judiciary’s Mizan news website.
The motive for the assassination remains unclear, but authorities confirmed that the attacker was not involved in any Supreme Court cases. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
Both judges were known for their work on cases related to national security, espionage, and terrorism. Razini, 71, previously survived a 1998 assassination attempt when a magnetic bomb was planted in his vehicle.
Attacks on judges in Iran are rare but not unprecedented. Recent years have seen shootings targeting other prominent figures, including a Muslim preacher in Kazeroun in October 2023 and powerful cleric Abbas Ali Soleimani in Mazandaran in April 2023.
Security forces are working to uncover details of the incident amid heightened tensions surrounding prominent judiciary figures in Iran.
