UAE President’s First White House Visit Focuses on AI and Technology, Amid Growing Regional Tensions

Abu Dhabi, Sept 27 (Alliance News) – In the first-ever visit by a UAE president to the White House, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed met with US President Joe Biden and top US officials this week, prioritizing technological and economic partnerships, including the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and infrastructure.

The visit occurred against the backdrop of the expanding war between Israel and Lebanon, but the primary focus remained on future-oriented economic deals.

During their Oval Office meeting, President Biden highlighted the UAE’s forward-thinking approach, particularly in AI, clean energy, and space.

He also recognized the UAE as a major defense partner. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership with the US.

While the war in Gaza and Lebanon was briefly discussed, the focus remained on fostering cooperation in AI and technology.

UAE officials emphasized the shift towards becoming a regional AI hub and distancing themselves from Chinese technology.

The UAE’s move away from Chinese influence in AI and semiconductors was underscored during the visit, with Abu Dhabi-owned firm MGX partnering with major US firms like NVIDIA, Blackrock, and Microsoft to raise $100 billion for AI infrastructure.

Discussions also touched on humanitarian aid to Gaza, with the UAE holding back on rebuilding efforts until Israel commits to a two-state solution.
