BEIRUT, Dec 2 (Alliance News): The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has suspended aid and food delivery to Gaza, citing recent looting incidents involving Israeli armed groups.
According to a statement released on Sunday, aid deliveries, previously conducted through the Kerem Shalom cargo crossing, have been halted following the looting of trucks loaded with supplies.
UNRWA placed responsibility for the looting on Israel, stating that as an occupying power, it is Israel’s duty to protect humanitarian aid and workers.
The agency emphasized that the current situation, marked by growing hunger in Gaza, has made it impossible to proceed with aid deliveries due to Israeli sanctions.
The Israeli military, however, denied these allegations, asserting that there are no restrictions on the quantity of aid available to civilians and that delays in aid delivery are due to the UN’s handling of the situation.
Experts warn that this suspension will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, especially with the onset of winter and rainy weather, leaving victims struggling with cold, hunger, and inadequate shelter.
Reports also indicate that after the US called for a ceasefire, Hamas leaders have engaged in discussions with Egyptian officials.
Israeli sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Netanyahu has expressed readiness to negotiate a ceasefire.
