Trump Invites Chinese President Xi Jinping to Inauguration Despite Rising Tensions

WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (Alliance News): US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration ceremony on January 20, 2025, despite ongoing tensions between the two nations over trade disputes and fentanyl trafficking.

The invitation, extended shortly after the Nov. 5 presidential election, remains unconfirmed by the Chinese government. Trump, in an interview with NBC News, expressed positive relations with Xi, stating they had recently communicated.

However, Trump has taken a strong stance on trade, planning a 10% tariff on Chinese goods unless Beijing does more to curb fentanyl trafficking.

This follows his earlier threats of imposing tariffs exceeding 60%. China’s state media has warned that these tariff actions could lead to a destructive trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
