WASHINGTON, Nov 19 (Alliance News): The United States has made it clear to the Turkish government that there can be no “business as usual” if reports about the transfer of Hamas leaders to Turkey are true.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller addressed the issue during a press briefing, stating that while he could not confirm or deny the reports, the US does not believe that the leader of a terrorist organization should be living comfortably anywhere.
He emphasized that Hamas is a terrorist group responsible for killing citizens of various countries, including many Americans, and that members of Hamas have been indicted by the US for their crimes.
Miller further called on Turkey to hand over any Hamas members that are subject to US indictments.
In response, a Turkish diplomatic source denied the reports, clarifying that while members of Hamas’ political bureau occasionally visit Turkey, claims of the bureau relocating there from Qatar were untrue.
This follows a similar denial from Qatar last week, which also rejected claims that Hamas’ political office had moved to its territory.
