Wang Yi and EU’s Borrell Discuss Strengthening China-EU Ties at UN General Assembly

Beijing, Sept 26 (Alliance News): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi emphasized that enhancing cooperation between China and the EU aligns with the long-term interests of both sides and the expectations of the global community.

He stated that China and the EU should strengthen mutual trust, increase collaboration, and contribute to stabilizing international and regional situations while promoting global human development.

Wang also expressed hope that the EU would maintain its strategic sovereignty, resist external interference, and work towards fostering strong and stable China-EU relations.

Borrell acknowledged China’s growing influence, calling it an “inexorable historical phenomenon,” and stressed the importance of Europe cooperating with China to help maintain global peace and security.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed the Ukraine crisis, with Wang Yi reaffirming China’s commitment to de-escalating tensions and promoting peace.

He rejected attempts to place the burden of responsibility on China, emphasizing the nation’s efforts to mediate and maintain stability.
