BEIJING, Oct 31(Alliance News): Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, emphasizing the enduring partnership between China and Finland.

Finland, the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations and sign a trade agreement with China, has maintained a mutually respectful and cooperative relationship since 1950.

During the meeting, Xi praised Finland’s role in fostering equal exchanges and emphasized that the foundation of their strong ties has been mutual respect, equality, and consideration of each country’s core interests.

Xi encouraged Finland to engage actively in China’s modernization journey, highlighting emerging areas for collaboration, including green transformation, digital economy, AI, and new energy sectors.

Xi also announced a new unilateral visa-free policy for Finnish citizens, aimed at fostering increased tourism, business, and educational exchanges.

Looking ahead to the 50th anniversary of China-EU relations next year, Xi expressed hope that Finland would play a constructive role in strengthening China-EU cooperation.

President Stubb acknowledged the longstanding respect and open dialogue between China and Finland, reaffirming Finland’s commitment to the One China policy.

Stubb praised Xi’s initiatives on global challenges and emphasized Finland’s intent to bolster multilateral cooperation with China to support world peace.

He also expressed that “decoupling” or a “new cold war” between the EU and China is not beneficial for either side, pledging Finland’s support for smooth EU-China relations.

The leaders also engaged in a detailed discussion on global issues, including the ongoing crises in Ukraine and Palestine-Israel.
