KYIV, Sept 6 (Alliance News): Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba resigned on Wednesday ahead of a major government reshuffle, while Russian attacks overnight claimed at least seven lives, including that of a child.
Kuleba, a key figure in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration, has been a prominent diplomat, especially in managing Ukraine’s foreign relations during the ongoing war.
Kuleba’s resignation follows a wave of exits from Ukraine’s government, with two vice premiers, three ministers, and other top officials also stepping down, CNN reported.
Parliament swiftly approved Kuleba’s resignation on Thursday, with Andrii Sybiha, a former ambassador to Turkey, sworn in as his replacement.
Zelensky has yet to provide a clear explanation for the reshuffle, though he hinted in a recent address that the fall will be “extremely important for Ukraine,” signaling a need to align state institutions for critical results.
Many of the outgoing officials are expected to be reassigned within the government, with new cabinet members set to be appointed soon.
The reshuffle comes at a crucial time, as Ukraine faces increasing pressure from Russian forces, particularly in the eastern city of Pokrovsk, and Zelensky prepares for a trip to the United States, where he will attend the United Nations General Assembly and meet President Joe Biden.
Zelensky has indicated that he will present Biden with a four-part “victory plan” during his visit.
