Germany, Sept 06 (Alliance News):Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on international allies to accelerate the delivery of promised air defense systems at the 24th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, on Friday.
He stressed that a “significant” shortfall in these vital systems threatens Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian forces effectively.
While thanking allies for the systems already received, Zelensky emphasized that many agreed-upon deliveries remain unfulfilled.
“The world has enough air defense systems to ensure that Russian terror does not succeed,” he urged, calling for faster assistance to prevent further Russian attacks.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, present at the meeting, announced another $250 million security aid package for Ukraine.
This includes artillery rounds, HIMARS ammunition, and anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, among other equipment.
The Biden administration has committed over $4 billion in security assistance since June.
The meeting comes amid increased pressure from Ukraine to use long-range weapons against Russian targets.
A deadly Russian strike last week highlighted the need for enhanced defense capabilities as Kyiv continues its offensive, while Russia’s aggression persists, particularly in eastern Ukraine and the Kursk region.
