WINDER, Georgia, Sept 5 (Alliance News): A tragic school shooting in the small city of Winder, Georgia, has left the community heartbroken after a 14-year-old student and his father were charged in connection with a deadly rampage at Apalachee High School.
Colt Gray, a student, faces four counts of felony murder for allegedly opening fire on campus with an AR-style rifle, killing two students and two teachers on Wednesday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Nine others were injured, with seven sustaining gunshot wounds, CNN reported.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith described the act as an “evil” attack that left both physical and emotional scars on the community.
Authorities have also charged Colt’s father, Colin Gray, 54, with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
The GBI stated that Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son to possess the weapon used in the attack.
The incident is the deadliest school shooting in the US since March 2023 and marks the 45th school shooting of 2024. Both father and son remain in custody as authorities work to determine legal representation.
