UNITED KINGDOM, Sept 13 (Alliance News): Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the expulsion of six British diplomats from Moscow, accusing them of espionage and sabotage.
The FSB claimed the diplomats were involved in actions that threatened Russian security, citing alleged coordination with a British Foreign Office department responsible for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
According to the FSB, the British diplomats were implicated in efforts to escalate political and military tensions and to ensure Russia’s strategic defeat in its war against Ukraine.
The FSB provided documents it claimed proved these allegations.
In response, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with relevant agencies, revoked the accreditation of the diplomats. The names and photographs of the expelled diplomats were broadcast on Russian state TV.
The FSB stated that further expulsions could follow if additional British diplomats were found engaging in similar activities.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the British embassy for actions deemed beyond diplomatic norms and accused it of deliberate activities harmful to Russia.
Britain’s embassy in Moscow has yet to respond to requests for comment.
