MIAMI, Dec 20 (Alliance News): Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will face New York City Football Club (NYCFC) at home on February 22, 2025, in the opening match of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
This game comes amidst a busy schedule for Inter Miami, as the club prepares for a series against Kansas City in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on February 18 and 25.
At 37, Messi helped Inter Miami achieve the best record in MLS last season, although their playoff run ended unexpectedly in the opening round with a defeat to Atlanta.
The club will face various challenges in the new season, including matches against Eastern Conference rivals and a road trip to teams from the Western Conference.
The upcoming season also marks the debut of San Diego as the 30th MLS club.
MLS expansion will be highlighted by their February 23 match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The 2025 season will see each of the league’s 30 clubs play 34 matches.
Additionally, MLS will hold a tribute to its inaugural season with DC United visiting San Jose for a rematch of the first-ever MLS contest on April 6. Inter Miami will also compete in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, alongside the Seattle Sounders.
