Macron Announces €109 Billion AI Investment Ahead of Paris Summit

PARIS, Feb 10 (Alliance News): French President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled a €109 billion ($113 billion) investment in artificial intelligence (AI) ahead of a two-day summit in Paris, co-hosted with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The summit aims to address global AI governance, ethics, accessibility, and European sovereignty over AI technologies.

The investment, backed by international investors including the UAE, American and Canadian funds, and French companies, positions France as a key player in AI development.

Macron compared the initiative to the US’s $500 billion “Stargate” project, which focuses on AI infrastructure and data centres.

The Paris summit, featuring 1,500 attendees, will include major tech figures such as OpenAI’s Sam Altman and MistralAI’s Arthur Mensch. A key focus will be on AI data centres, with MistralAI planning significant investments in France, leveraging the country’s nuclear energy for high-energy AI operations.

In addition, a $400 million global initiative, “Current AI,” backed by countries, corporations, and philanthropic groups, aims to promote ethical AI development through open-source tools and data.

World leaders will discuss AI governance, though achieving consensus among regions like the EU, the US, China, and India remains a challenge.
