Abu Dhabi, NOV 01 (Alliance News): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a two-month extension of its visa amnesty program for individuals who have overstayed their visas.
The new deadline for violators to rectify their status is now December 31, 2024, according to an announcement from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) on Thursday.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the ICP, stated that this extension aligns with the UAE’s upcoming 53rd Union Day celebrations and reflects the country’s humanitarian and cultural values.
He noted that the initiative is a response to requests from individuals seeking to either leave the country or secure employment and adjust their residency status.
The announcement comes after a noticeable increase in demand at service centers nationwide as the original deadline of October 31 approached.
Al Khaili emphasized that this extension offers the final opportunity for violators to regularize their status without facing fines or entry bans.
He highlighted the program’s humanitarian aspects, providing violators with a chance to address their challenges, safeguard their rights, and protect their families.
Over the past two months, there has been a significant turnout of individuals taking advantage of the amnesty.
The ICP, along with government and private sector partners, is committed to assisting those who face difficulties in the process.
However, Al Khaili stressed that once the amnesty period ends, fines will be reinstated for those who remain in violation. The authority plans to increase inspection campaigns to enforce compliance after the extension period concludes.
